Education is a key component of Fire Prevention efforts. In addition to emergency responses, Fire personnel offer safety education to various groups throughout the City. Fire Department members devote their time and experience to helping the community.
Fire Prevention Education Fire Department personnel deliver fire and life safety presentations throughout Englewood. Topics include fire prevention and safety, hands-on fire extinguisher training, fire safety for seniors, burn awareness and prevention, and home and business evacuation plans.
Fire Inspections Each year, Fire Department personnel conduct fire safety inspections at Englewood's businesses to help mitigate potential fire hazards.
First Aid Training Members of the Englewood Fire Department conduct CPR classes and First Aid for hundreds of people every year. The Fire Department presents programs for Fire Prevention Week and throughout the year as needed. The Fire Department also participates in Englewood's Neighborhood Watch Program.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) The CERT program helps citizens prepare themselves to deal with the effects of natural and manmade disasters in order to reduce injury, loss of life, and property damage. Englewood was the first city in Colorado and one of the first in the nation to offer this FEMA based program to its citizens. The program is designed to help cities prepare for effective neighborhood and community based disaster response through a combination of education, training, and preplanning.
The Fire Department has formed a unique partnership with Englewood High School to provide training to students in the Health Occupation curriculum. This program was also the first in the country to bring this important "life skills" education to the high school level.
